LCCC debuts new Health Sciences building amid nursing shortage NANTICOKE, Pa - In response to the nursing shortage currently in the United States, Luzerne County Community unveils a new Health Sciences building in downtown Nanticoke. This new renovation will help the medical field in the Luzerne County area acquire health care professionals as students graduate. The open house and ribbon cutting event will be held at 42 East Main Street, Nanticoke from 1:00pm- 4:00pm April 2, 2022 and will feature demonstrations in SimMan, Slim Baby, plus tours of the new Dental Clinic, Operating Room, and Nursing Labs. The new facility will bring together all of LCCC’s health sciences programs- Nursing, LPN -RN, Respiratory Therapy, Surgical Technology, Dental Hygiene, and Emergency Medical Service. “The technology our students will be using in this new building mirrors what they will be using in their professional career. LCCC students in our health sciences programs will be better prepared to enter their respective fields and have the training they need to excel in their studies” said Dr. Cheryl Lesser, Academic Vice President of Luzerne County Community College. Students like second year nursing student Janet Myers, took a tour of the new building and were impressed with what they saw. “I cannot believe the quality of the labs in this building. I feel I will have the knowledge and expertise I need to enter my new career in nursing after I graduate”. Dr Cheryl Lesser and Janet Myers are two of the speakers who will be featured at the Luzerne County Community College Health Sciences Building during its open house.
